Posted on September 9, 2025 by Anna Shand

Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy launched its Workplace Mentoring program on Sept. 3, 2025, connecting students with mentors from businesses and organizations across Chattanooga. The program equips students with professional skills through resume building, networking, mock interviews, and vision board exercises. This year, the program will include three mentors on campus and 11 off campus, reaching more than 200 CGLA students. “I believe that our Workplace Mentoring program here at CGLA is not just about the girls gaining professional skills,” said Terrianna Johnson, Director of Community Engagement, College Advising and Athletics. “It helps builds the girls’ confidence as they grow into young women, showing them that those top CEO positions at companies are not impossible to reach, and helps prepare them to navigate life's challenges with resilience and grace, long after they have left the classroom.”Participants in this program gain self-confidence, self-awareness, leadership skill development, and strong communication and listening skills. Students will be exposed to new and different perspectives where they can learn to grow their personal network, increase their chance of promotion and master the art of delivering feedback. Current partners include Tennessee Valley Authority, Truist Bank, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, PBS, Crabtree Farms, Camp Wildernest, STEAM Logistics, Astec, US Xpress, Chattanooga Football Club, Blue Cross Blue Shield, EPB, Chattanooga Police Department, Hutton, UNUM, The Nature School and United Way.Professionals interested in serving as mentors can contact CGLA at mentoring@cglaonline.com.
